Why We Sleep

de Matthew Walker par Zoe McNamee

publié le 11/06/2019

By reading this koob, you will learn how to use sleep to improve every aspect of your waking life.

You will also discover:

  • What sleep is, and why we need it;

  • How modern life is taking a toll on our natural rhythm;

  • The catastrophic consequences of losing sleep;

  • How napping can add years to your life; and

  • How reclaiming rest can make you more productive, more successful and better-looking!

In this groundbreaking book, neuroscientist Matthew Walker guides readers through the shadowy world of sleep. It’s the quietest, most mysterious part of any human’s life; scientists have only recently begun exploring some of its secrets, thanks to advances in technology and medicine.

Sleep is absolutely essential, and yet totally neglected by the average person.

Heavy sleepers are seen as lazy in today’s go-getting society, and the first part of the old maxim “early to bed, early to rise, makes you healthy, wealthy and wise” seems to have been forgotten. Burning the candle at both ends – going to bed late and getting up early – has become the new normal. And yet, if you burn a candle at both ends, what happens?

It burns out.

Lots of bold statements without hard evidence, take with a grain of salt and do your own research. In general, sleep is good for and the overall message is to get at least 8 hours. Some people might need less or more than 8.
